With over 34 years of legal experience, including representing many clients in the UAE, Paul is a popular instructor at the Dubai Chambers where he has taught frequently since 2009. Paul also is a well-known speaker at the New York City Bar Association, the American Chamber of Commerce Thailand, the United States Embassy Bangkok, United States Embassy Tajikistan, Georgetown University Law Center, the American Bar Association and other educational and professional organizations. Paul currently operates his Washington D.C. law firm from Tajikistan, providing clients worldwide with legal guidance on contracts and licenses, intellectual property and internet privacy and security.

Nicholas J Carnell

Nick specializes in construction and engineering law, arbitration and insurance law. He has over 30 years’ experience with the last 15 years in the Middle East. He has acted for developers, funders, contractors, specialist sub-contractors, professionals and insurers. Nick has extensive advocacy experience in all forms of dispute resolution and is a Registered Practitioner in the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts. Nick is a Chartered Arbitrator and a CEDR Accredited Mediator. He is registered with the Dubai International Arbitration Centre and has received numerous appointments as Arbitrator and is the go to expert for construction disputes. Paul specializes in construction and engineering disputes, acting for a range of contractors and sub-contractors across the GCC and Africa. Paul has been based in the Middle East for 8 years, having previously worked in the Construction Disputes team at Taylor Wessing London post-qualification. Paul has advised across multiple dispute resolution platforms including the ICC, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA and KSA Rules of Arbitration and in the High Court of England & Wales and the DIFC Courts. Paul is a contributing author to the RICS iSurv portal providing expert guidance for RICS members acting in arbitration, is a contributing author to the Lexis Nexis Gulf Legal Advisor portal, and frequently writes and speaks on matters relating to construction and arbitration in the Gulf.
